The program starts on September 1 in year n and is completed on August 31 in year n+2.
The program comprises 1 month of propeadeutics in Potsdam followed by classes in term one in either Groningen or Joensuu. All students are together in Potsdam in the second term and mobility in the third term takes them to Groningen or Joensuu. The fourth term is spent on thesis work at the institution of the first supervisor. Students attend at least at two of the three participating institutions of the consortium.
The following table summarizes the mobility scheme:
| Propaedeutic | Term 1 | Term 2 | Term 3 | Term 4 | |
| Year n Sep 1-30 | Year n-n+1 Oct 1-March 1 | Year n+1 March 1-Sep 30 | Year n+1-n+2 Oct 1-March 1 | Year n+2 March 1-Aug 31 | |
| Groningen | x | x | x | ||
| Joensuu | x | x | x | ||
| Potsdam | x | x | x |
The appropriateness and added value of mandatory student mobility is obvious. It provides the students with a high degree of cultural flexibility, which is a necessary prerequisite for the life of a researcher as an international team player, and our alumni survey demonstrates that close to 70% of the students select such a career and acquire PhD-positions. Furthermore, thanks to student mobility, the program, which is in a small field at national levels, becomes enriched by combining human resources.
